12 Feb 2022 | Egyptian Feast with guest chef AJ Takla
Date: 12 February 2022
Location: Kitchen Things, 1 Glover Street, Ngauranga, Wellington 6035
Join our guest Chef AJ Takla for a delicious vegetarian Egyptian cooking class inspired by dishes AJ serves up at her food stall at Press Hall, Basbousa. AJ will teach you how to make typical dishes to create an Egyptian feast while sharing both the science and culinary history behind the dishes. The format of the class is part demo, part hands-on cooking to create a feast of multiple dishes to be shared at a sit-down lunch at the end of the class.
Wine and Beer available for purchase; we offer complimentary housemade caffeine-free kombucha and Middle Eastern tea.
Sample menu (TBC): Egyptian Rice, Messa’aa (Moussaka sans béchamel) with mint yoghurt sauce, Taameia (Egyptian felafel with fava), tahini sauce, Sambousa bil gibna, hummus, Tomato and red onion salad, Baba ghanoug, Pistachio & Rosewater Om Ali (an Egyptian filo take on bread and butter pudding: absolutely delicious!!)
ABOUT Angela: AJ brings into the kitchen her childhood in Oman, her Filipino and Egyptian roots, and her training in Paris. Her food comes from the heart. She likes to create food that is accessible and nostalgic and hopes to encourage people to eat more vegetables and use more spice. She encourages people to ask WHY when following recipes - hopefully, you will leave this class with a better understanding of Egyptian food, its history, and the science behind the very specific steps we take when making dishes. She has recently opened an Egyptian street food stall in Press Hall called Basbousa. Check her out on insta @Basbousa_nz
