Join us for a delightful culinary journey where Alicja, a passionate Polish girl from Gdansk, will guide you through the preparation of three iconic Polish-Ukrainian dishes. Alicja may be an amateur cook, but her love of cooking has turned into one of her greatest hobbies. She has hosted numerous cooking evenings for her family and friends--and wowed chef and Savour founder, Wendy (also of Polish heritage), with her recipes when they cooked together in May this year--perfecting her skills, and sharing her nostalgic connection to Polish cuisine.

Having lived in New Zealand for the past six years, Alicja has developed a deep passion for showcasing and preserving the flavours of her homeland. During this class, you will learn to prepare three classic Polish-Ukrainian dishes:

Gołąbki (Stuffed Cabbage Rolls): Gołąbki are a beloved Polish comfort food. Tender cabbage leaves are stuffed with a flavourful mixture of ground meat, rice, onions, and herbs. Slowly simmered in a rich tomato sauce, these hearty rolls are the epitome of Polish home cooking.

Barszcz Ukraiński (Ukrainian Borscht): This traditional dish features a vibrant red colour and a distinctively refreshing flavour. Alicja will guide you through the process of creating a flavourful vegetable broth and infusing it with beets, onions, and other aromatic ingredients. Served with a dollop of sour cream, this soup is sure to awaken your taste buds.

Sernik (Polish Cheesecake with Poppyseed Base): Sernik is a classic Polish cheesecake that combines smooth, creamy filling with a delicate crust. Alicja will teach you the art of creating a luscious cheesecake using a blend of farmer's cheese, eggs, sugar, and a hint of vanilla. You'll learn the techniques for achieving the perfect texture and flavour balance, resulting in a dessert that will satisfy any sweet tooth.

Throughout the class, Alicja will share her personal stories and experiences, bringing a touch of authenticity to your cooking journey. Her passion for Polish cuisine and her dedication to preserving its traditional flavours will inspire you to embrace the culinary heritage of Poland.
At the end of the class, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the fruits of your labour as you sit down to a delicious meal, savouring the barszcz ukraiński, gołąbki, and sernik that you have prepared. You'll also receive detailed recipes for each dish, ensuring that you can recreate the magic of Polish-Ukrainian cooking in your own kitchen.
