Join Katherine Mansfield House & Garden Director, Cherie Jacobson, for a very special book club-style cooking class and afternoon tea. You'll begin over a cup of tea with a small group chat with Cherie about three Katherine Mansfield short stories where food features (the stories will be provided beforehand as PDFs).

Then, you'll head into the kitchen where professional a Cordon Bleu trained patisserie chef will teach you how to make the perfect choux pastry and from that, four treats: eclairs, profiterols, cream puffs, and gougeres. We will also enjoy a selection of tea sandwiches and a cake inspired by the honey almond cake in the story ‘Miss Brill.' All of this we'll enjoy in the dining room after cooking with more tea!

Participants will take home: an eclair, a profiterol, a cream puff and a gougeres.

So come along and enjoy this unique opportunity to learn more about food in Katherine Mansfield's work, which continues to be read around the world a century after her death in France.

“Oh, impossible. Fancy cream puffs so soon after breakfast. The very idea made one shudder. All the same, two minutes later Jose and Laura were licking their fingers with that absorbed inward look that only comes from whipped cream.”

From Katherine Mansfield’s ‘The Garden Party’.
