26 May 2024 | Cooking with the Impressionists: Claude Monet in Giverny
Date: 26 May 2024
Time: 3:00pm to 6:00pm
Location: Savour headquarters aka Wendy's home and garden, 94 Oban St., Wadestown, Wellington
Space in this workshop is limited to 8 people.
Today we’ll gather at art historian and chef Dr. Wendy Joyce's home to learn more about Monet's life, art and food in Giverny. Of course we'll also talk about his garden where he grew all of the vegetables for the household.
We'll begin with a lively virtual tour of Monet's years in Giverny. The visual presentation lasts about an hour and takes place in Wendy's cozy living room with cups of herbal tea from the garden. Then you’ll head into the kitchen to cook two very French dishes from Monet's personal recipe collection: Monet's favourite creamy eggs with mushrooms and an apple galette inspired by Monet's painting by the same title (pictured). We'll also go out to the garden and forage for some organic greens for our salad, and Wendy will teach you a simple, delicious recipe for French salad dressing.
After the cooking, sit down and enjoy dinner together with some fresh sourdough.
